Platforms for developing iPhone Application

In 2008, after Steve Jobs released a Software Development Kit  (SDK)for developing iPhone application,  the iPhone OS platform became open for all to development their own application. Xcode is the development environment for iPhone development.  Later a lot of frameworks were introduced over this platform.  The following are new platforms for developing iPhone applications.

iPhone SDK

An SDK for iPhone development is released on 6th March 2008. using this SDK, developer can develop application is iPhone and iTouch devices. It came up with an iPhone simulator  to test application. SDK requires Apple Developer Licence to launch application on any iPhone device.  like Mac operating system, iPhone OS also based on Xcode.  the main components of this SDK are:

  1. Cocoa Touch
  2. Media
  3. Core Services
  4. OS X kernal

MonoTouch

MonoTouch allows developers to create C# and .NET based applications that run on Apple’s iPhone and Apple’s iPod Touch devices, while taking advantage of the iPhone APIs and reusing both code and libraries that have been built for .NET, as well as existing skills. (MonoTouch, 2009).

PhoneGap

PhoneGap basically generates native wrappers for what are still web apps. What PhoneGap provides beyond that is a bridge between JavaScript and native device APIs. so, you write JavaScript against PhoneGap APIs, and PhoneGap then makes the appropriate corresponding native call. in that respect, it is different from deploying a plain old web app. (Stackoverflow, 2009).

Corona

Corono is web based application development for iPhone-based devices. It supports html, javascipt, action script (flash) and a good platform for highly graphic basic applications , games etc. This is very latest platform in iPhone development world and the team releases daily updates on this SDK. Research on increasing graphic speed and flash based application integration in iPhone is progress with the Corona team. This platform is not free. A limited feature trail version is available for free. for full SDK, you need to spend 99 dollars.

Appcelerator

Appcelerator Titanium is an open source platform for developing mobile and desktop applications using web technologies. Appcelerator Titanium is frequently compared to Adobe Air for developing desktop applications for Windows, Mac and Linux. the tool can deploy standalone applications for Mac, Windows, and Linux from any of those platforms. It does this by submitting the source files to a proprietary server-side solution which then returns the binaries. However, to develop an iPhone application using this tool you need a Mac Os and iPhone SDK.

Motorola Droid RAZR Coming to Verizon in November for $299

Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha on Tuesday launched the Droid RAZR on Verizon Wireless, the network’s second dual-core 4G LTE smartphone that boasts more power, faster speeds, and a thinner form factor than any of Verizon’s current smartphones, including the Apple iPhone 4S.

Pre-orders for the Droid RAZR begin Oct. 27 and the device will hit Verizon stores in November.

Priced at $299 with a two-year contract, the 0.28-inch-thin Droid RAZR packs a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED advanced qHD display, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, HD front-facing camera, and mobile hotspot support for up to eight Wi-Fi devices.

It will ship with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, even though Google is announcing the release of Android 4.0 in a few hours out of Hong Kong. the RAZR’S 1780 mAH battery gives you 12.5 hours of 3G talk time and 8.9 hours of video playback. Jha added that this was the first smartphone capable of streaming movies and TV shows through Netflix in HD.

The Droid RAZR also adds some unprecedented finishes to the Droid line, like diamond-cut aluminum accents, tapered corners, a stainless steel core and laser-cut woven Kevlar fiber that Jha said “gives it extra strength without adding weight.” It’s also Motorola’s first phone to come with splash-guard protection.

The Droid RAZR also debuts MotoCast, which he described as a “cloud” but basically just syncs all the photos, music files, videos, and more stored on your PC.

And of course, there are the numerous accessories, not included, that will transform your phone into other quasi-devices: laptop docks (similar to the ones available for the Motorola Atrix and Droid Bionic), wireless keyboards, a vehicle navigation dock, universal travel charger, gesture touchpad, Bluetooth headset, and a portable power pack. “Enough accessories to make the smartphone the digital hub of your life,” Jha said.

With Verizon’s LTE speeds, Jha said the Droid RAZR will take only three seconds to load, compared to 20 seconds with the iPhone 4S; you can upload a 5MB video in 12 seconds on the Droid RAZR compared to 76 seconds on the iPhone 4S, he said.

It’ll be called the Droid RAZR in the U.S. and the Motorola RAZR everywhere else in the world.

Also today, Motorola introduced Moto ACTV, a small MP3 player that pairs with your smartphone to become what the company calls the ultimate fitness tool. see the slideshow above for more.

The iPhone development has developed in the modern time. the iPhone user can download iPhone application with GPRS connectivity connected to the local diversities. Downloading a game, movie, songs or accessing it also depends upon the model of the iPhone. Multiple nations charge multiple percentages of revenue developed by the iPhone development markets. So it is basically based upon the revenue developed through the development of the iPhone and in built programming is sometimes not even taken into consideration.

iPhone has created its own market in the mobile industry. it has created an aggressive atmosphere in the IT marketplace. it has come with the great features and dynamic programming applications. it has remarkable features that allow its developer to create fabulous applications for it. thus, the demand and the market of iPhone apps developers have been increasing rapidly. Recently, Apple Inc. has launched iPhone 4 and iPhone OS 4 that are more advanced devices in this device series. the devices come with the original and advanced features that are beneficial for iPhone apps development.

iPhone 4 Developers have many frameworks like:

iPhone Three20 DevelopmentiPhone Appcelerator Titanium DevelopmentiPhone Bork3D DevelopmentiPhone Cocos2D DevelopmentiPhone DragonFire SDK DevelopmentiPhone Game Editor DevelopmentiPhone JQTouch DevelopmentiPhone PhoneGap DevelopmentiPhone Rhodes DevelopmentiPhone Tapku Development

Some iPhone 4 applications are inane and playful. One famous app is called ‘Steam.’ with Steam app, you drive the microphone on your iPhone, and the screen clouds over with what looks like steam. You can then clean it off with the proper squeaks and condensation.

iPhone games has boosted the iPhone quality and this is one of the fundamental things that iPhone is wrapper all around the world. the games in the iPhone have good quality and standard of the games which are fully developed. You can also find various multiplayer games, apps which mainly based on planned strategies, games you can play all the platforms such as quizzes, war games, racing games, block games, puzzles and there are many more.

There is a huge demand for some iPhone 4 application not only promoting business but also helps users to earn extra money. That is why we don’t be uncertain to comment that iPhone development has now been turning into a very money-making business module that attracts both users and developers across the world.

A Mac Computer is the key hardware that any iPhone 4 Application Developer should require. iPhone applications development can only be achievable with an Apple X operating system in an Intel-based Mac machine. Opt for a new dual-core Mac to get some amazing speeds. the Interface builder and Xcode run easily on such machines. Also, make sure your PC boasts at least 2GB RAM to build the development process easy.

The Callet: It's a case! It's a wallet!

Warning: This post contains an unusually high level of cheesy late-night TV ad phrases.

It’s not often that we at TUAW get to review a product with that “As seen on TV” label, but a new iPhone case that was sent for testing is exactly that. the Callet (US$19.95) is a simple product that takes a silicone wrap for iPhone 3G/3GS/4 and puts a few slots in the back where your drivers license and a credit card can be stashed. It’s a case! It’s a wallet! It’s a Callet!

But wait, there’s more! the Callet actually works quite well. Let’s face it; it’s not the sexiest iPhone case on the planet, but it does exactly what it’s advertised to do — protect your iPhone from bumps and scrapes as well as let you do away with the need to carry a wallet.

the silicone material is semi-transparent, so you can see the Apple logo glowing through the Callet. It comes in four — count ’em — four exciting colors: black, white, pink and blue. It also has holes in all the right places. There’s a big honkin’ gap at the bottom for your dock connector and speakers, another pair for the volume and mute switches, one for the headphone jack and noise cancellation mic, one for the on/off/sleep/wake switch, and even one for the SIM slot. But that’s not all — there’s also a hole for the camera and flash! the only tears you’ll cry will be tears of joy!

How much would you pay? At one easy payment of $19.95, the Callet isn’t the cheapest silicone sleeve that I’ve seen, but hey — how many of the others also act as a wallet? It really, really works! Yep, all you need to do is push a couple of credit cards or your driver’s license in the back, and you’re in business. you can set it and forget it.

you can order your Callet online now. Operators are standing by to take your call! Don’t delay!

SIM unlocked iPhone 4S will be available in the US with some carriers

According to a report from Macworld, the only company that will be releasing a SIM unlocked iPhone 4S on launch day  in the U.S. will be Sprint. Verizon will also be unlocking the iPhone 4S, but you’re going to have to be a customer in good standing for 60 or more days before the company will unlock the device.

Currently there is no word on what AT&T plans on doing with the iPhone 4S and whether or not they will be offering customers “international unlocks” at some point in the future. I would assume that AT&T won’t be unlocking their phones, but that’s just a guess at this point.

For anyone purchasing their phone outside of the US, there’s likely an option to purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S directly from Apple. for instance, in Canada, Apple offers customers the ability to buy an unlocked, contract free, iPhone directly from the company, instead of signing your life away for three years to a carrier. the luxury will cost you at least $649.00 (16 GB model), but keep in mind that that’s without contract subsidies from a carrier.

Personally, I’m going completely carrier-free and unlocked. the days of my being locked into a three-year contract for my iPhone are over. Yup, you read that right. in Canada carriers offer three-year contracts instead of two. It makes it difficult to take advantage of the maximum subsidies offered by carriers and still keep your phone on the cutting edge. as a case in point, my iPhone 3G, which was purchased the day it launched in Canada, just recently saw my contract expire. I’ve essentially been using a hobbled iPhone 3G for the last year because I’ve had very little choice, unless I was willing to re-sign a new contract.

Plan on unlocking your iPhone 4S? let us know why in the comments.

How Steve Jobs changed computing

Two hundred Apple 1 boards were sold, some in wooden cases commissioned by the Byte Shop from a local cabinet maker. the profits, combined with an investment of $250,000 from Mike Markkula, Apple’s first chairman of the board, helped to finance the development of the Apple II, a complete computer with its own custom-made injection molded plastic case. with a colour display and a version of Basic included as standard, and a wide range of software from companies including Microsoft, the Apple II was a huge hit immediately with home computer users. from its launch in May 1977 to the preparation of Apple’s preliminary offering on the stock market in September of the same year, sales of the II brought in more than three quarters of a million dollars.

Stock market documents from that period contain, under the heading of ‘risk factors,’ a warning that Apple’s management team is ‘young and relatively inexperienced in the high volume consumer electronics business.’ Nevertheless, Apple went public in 1980, shortly after the release of the Apple III, a less successful machine intended for the business market.

At this time Jobs held the title of Vice President Operations and oversaw the development of new models. In 1979 he negotiated the right to visit Xerox’s Parc development facility for him and other Apple engineers and designers in exchange for shares in the company. the principles of a graphic-led interface being developed at Parc, as well as hardware such as the mouse, informed the Apple Lisa – which was not a success, largely due to its retail price which approached the ten thousand dollars that Wozniak had been so keen to avoid with his design for the Apple I – and later the Macintosh.

New management at Apple forced Jobs off the Lisa project, so he turned his attention entirely onto the Macintosh. back working on a consumer-led project, his well-known attention to detail and sometimes abrasive management style inspired designer Jef Raskin and his team to come up with a product that set the template for mass-market personal computers.

The year after the Macintosh’s release, Jobs’s arguments with Apple’s board of directors increased until he resigned to form NeXT, where he developed graphical user interfaces further. NeXT computers did not sell in very large numbers, they were powerful but expensive, but they did have some devoted users. Tim Berners-Lee used a NeXT computer to write the software that underpinned the world wide web, and used one as the first web server.

As a side project Jobs bought and ran Pixar, the computer film company that span out of George Lucas’s Lucasfilm’s animation division. After a string of huge hits, Pixar is now part of Disney. Jobs was Disney’s largest single shareholder as a result of the acquisition.

Without Jobs, Apple slowly lost popularity until he persuaded board members to buy NeXT in 1996. He was appointed CEO in 1997, a position he held until very recently.

Steve Jobs’s prowess was not in engineering or design. He relied on Steve Wozniak in the very early days of Apple, then Jef Raskin for the Macintosh and later Jonathon Ive for the iPod, iPhone and later versions of Apple’s computers. What he did possess was a superbly keen eye for the needs and desires of consumers, the ability to attract talent to work with him and the leadership to bring out their best work.

iPhone versus Android, laptop versus desktop

The latest may be on the way, but it seems the latest figures show that Android phones are now outselling their rival by 2-1.

But is that the be-all and end-all?

ABC South West Victoria Mornings technology correspondent Scott Shrieke is in our studios each Tuesday morning to discuss all things technological; he begins this week by comparing laptop, desktop and tablet computers and what people might expect or demand from the different sizes and styles of screens and ways of engaging in the digital world.

What’s the difference? what are the problems?

As for phones – just why are Android phones outselling their fruity competitors, and what exactly is the difference between them?

And where is all this headed? Do we give away the idea of computres and start thinking about what we can plug our phones into?

Listen in for some of his other tips as well – how to get the app for a web browser that blocks Facebook from tracking you online and where to go when your computer has been hijacked by a virus or other malware; and finally, the results are in: what is the best web browser you can find to surf the web?

Scott is the IT guru for the Ballarat and South West Victoria Mornings program with Steve Martin each Tuesday morning after 10am. Connect with Scott and Steve with your questions, queries or comments on Facebook.

The iPhone 4S's Sneaky Side

the iPhone's a big creeper. It has a bunch of fancy phone features that have wooed users, like Siri and its 8 megapixel camera. but the phone has a darker side. It does some pretty sneaky things, like detect passwords, reports New Scientist's Jacob Aaron. "Security researchers have discovered they [iPhones] can detect the vibrations caused by using a computer keyboard and read off what is being typed simply by placing a smartphone with a keylogging app on the desk nearby," writes Aaron. and that's just the beginning of your phone's sneaky behavior.

the iPhone doesn't just detect passwords, memorizing those typed directly into the phone, it eavesdrops. the phone's accelerometer–the thing that does that cool photo flippy thing from horizontal to vertical–detects keystrokes and can guess the letters based on the the different types of vibrations, found researchers at Georgia Tech.

not only can the phone detect passwords, but it snoops on your friends with the find My Friends feature. the app doesn't exist for mere stalking purposes.  "One example that Apple has used is of someone hosting a party and requesting all the attendees locations temporarily so that he could make sure that they found his house ok," points out ZDNet's Jason D. O Grady. but contrary to that lovely suggestion, it works for stalking, too. like, for finding a cheating spouse.

and then there's Siri. the talking bot has a saucy side, but she's also a bit sneaky: She'll tell all of your contacts your embarrassing pet name, explains Gizmodo's Andrew Tarantola. "Siri has the ability to address you any way you wish—Master, Tater Salad, whatever," writes Tarantola. "Siri also has the ability, according to Fury.com, to save that nickname to your personal contact info and distribute it with every vCard you send." Come on, Siri, we thought we were friends!
