Guide to Watching Movies on Your iPhone

There is more than one way you can watch iPhone movies and in this article we’ll discuss how it works and exactly what you need to watch videos on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.

Watching movies on an iPhone is actually a lot of fun, and that crisp screen is perfect for digital videos. Many road trips or airline flights have been saved from boredom thanks to iPhone movies, and the process to get movies onto your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad is quite simple. In this article, we’ll cover the different ways you can watch iPhone movies on your handheld device, either through digital download or streaming video online.

Digital Copies from DVD and Blu-ray

There has been a trend in the past couple of years for DVD and Blu-ray movies to include a ‘bonus digital copy’ of the movie, often found on a second disc. I love that the studios are doing this for their customers. After all, if you already own the DVD or Blu-ray, why should you have to buy a second copy for your mobile device? You could get DVD ripping software and make your own digital copy, but the process often takes hours and if you don’t use the right settings, the video quality will be poor.

Instructions for how to import the bonus digital movie copy to your iTunes library should be included with the movie, but generally all you have to do is insert the disc into your computer, then enter a redemption code. Some redemption codes expire after a certain amount of time, so if you buy a movie that includes a bonus digital copy, you need to go ahead and redeem it as soon as possible. All the redemption process does is download a copy of the movie into your iTunes library, then you can transfer it to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPhone and watch as much as you want because you own it.

Streaming Netflix Movies

Another great way to watch iPhone movies is for you to download the free Netflix app and stream movies to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. You have to be a subscriber to the Netflix service, but you can get the ‘1 DVD out’ plan which includes unlimited streaming for just $8.99/month. Given the amount of movies and TV shows you could watch in one month, you’d never get that good of a deal from renting videos at your local store or kiosk.

I have the Netflix app on my iPod Touch and it works great. It ties into my online queue or I can search through the newest or most popular releases. The download speeds over my home wireless network were very quick, and I went from installing the app to watching a movie in less than a minute’s time. It’s almost enough to make me justify buying an iPad.

Download or Rent from iTunes

Another easy way to watch iPhone movies is to buy or rent them from the iTunes store. Apple regularly runs sales and specials on movie prices, such as $4.99 download to own movies, so you should check the iTunes movies section often to see if there is anything you might want on there. They even have 99 cent movie rentals, which is pretty awesome if you’re looking for something quick and cheap. Otherwise, rental fees are often as much as $4.99.

When you rent from iTunes, you have to watch the movie within 24 hours and then your viewing license expires. The idea is that if you rent something you pretty much are expected to watch it right there, so don’t rent a bunch of movies at once unless you plan to have a marathon. Buying movies from iTunes puts a permanent digital copy of the movie into your library and you can watch any time you want.

Note: Movies can take up a lot of space on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. For that reason, be sure to only check the box next to the movies you want to manually sync, otherwise you will fill up your device.

Online Movie Download Services

In addition to Netflix, there are some other movie download apps you can get for your iPhone, iPod Touch, and iTunes. These include mSpot Movies (read review), which is a free app but requires you to sign up for a monthly service fee to actually watch anything. Their prices aren’t any better than the iTunes store, so the app seems kind of pointless. If you want to watch Hulu on your iPhone, you can download the free Hulu+ app (read review), but it also requires a $9.99 monthly subscription fee and much of the same content they offer can be found on Netflix. I wanted to mention these options for people who don’t have Netflix accounts, though I must say that the best deal is really to go with Netflix.

FTC investigates Apple ban on AdMob, Adobe from iPhone, iPad apps

Federal investigators are looking into the way Apple banned iPhone and iPad applications from integrating with the Google AdMob service. Hours after Google released its AdMob software development kit (SDK) to developers ahead of Apple’s own iAd initiative, the rules for Apple iPad and iPhone developers changed: no apps are allowed to work with Google AdMob or run on multiple operating systems.

In response to complaints concerning the tactics Apple is using to restrict competition, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has opened a formal probe to determine whether Apple policies leveraging its market position to unfairly hurt competitors are legal. The investigation is said to center around tactics used by Apple to restrict rivals in mobile advertising, mainly Google AdMob, but will also include a look at Apple policies concerning Adobe Flash.

Apple Moves against Google, Adobe

Apple faces intense questioning concerning its business practices that seem hostile to companies like Google and Adobe that Apple perceives as threats. Last month Apple effectively banned all development of iPhone and iPad apps that use Adobe Flash, a move that followed weeks of public bickering between the two firms.

When Google humiliated Apple by being the first to release a mobile advertising (SDK) for Apple iPad and iPhone applications, Apple responded by banning AdMob from its devices.

In the same action, Apple also banned applications that could run on multiple operating systems such as Google Android. In yet another move, Apple has banned the use of third party tools in the development of applications for the Apple iPhone and iPad platforms.

Apple iOS 4

Mobile advertising took a leap forward this week with the launch of Apple iOS 4, the first advertising enabled operating system for Apple iPhone and iPad. Designed to serve ads from within iPhone and iPad apps, the feature earns revenue for developers and Apple alike.

Earlier this year Apple CEO Steve Jobs estimated that over a billion advertisements could display on Apple mobile devices every day. It is the Apple move against AdMob that prompted federal regulators to proceed with an investigation of Apple practices and their effect on the mobile advertising market.

Fresh off a decision that allowed Google to purchase AdMob, the FTC is familiar with the dynamics involved in the mobile advertising market and is expected to move quickly in its anti-trust investigation

HTC Suit Versus Apple Moves Forward

In a separate action, the International Trade Commission (ITC) allowed a patent infringement suit filed against Apple by smartphone developer HTC to move forward. The HTC action seeks to halt all sales of the Apple iPhone within the United States.

Is Apple Inc (AAPL) a Bargain Right Now?

(Marketspace) I’m always on the hunt for a bargain, and not just of the Black Friday variety. Sometimes, those bargains can be in the last place you would expect. In this case, it’s in a $360+ stock of a company currently valued at $337B. But hey, a bargain is a bargain and right now, Apple Inc. is on sale!

When scanning through stocks, the first thing I look for is a trend, then the more advanced technicals (such as momentum indicators, etc.) and lastly, valuations. I must admit, I often overlook valuations, as my investing time frame is normally very short and, while the market can sustain irrational multiples for extended periods of time, it should not be a deterrent to making money off of any given move.

I haven’t bought any AAPL stock since it was at around $240, so I thought I might give it another look at the company, since I would end up spending that money in the Apple Store anyway…

First things first. Is the chart in an uptrend?

As you can see in the chart below, we are. There’s even a clean trendline, which is providing support at current prices. An uptrend is defined as a stock making higher highs and higher lows.

AAPL Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) How about the momentum indicators?

While the MACD indicator is very negative, it looks to be near it’s lower extreme, meaning a reversal to the upside of the indicator is likely going to happen soon.

What are the AAPL Valuations and Multiples?

Here’s where it gets interesting. AAPL is trading at a mere 13.1 P/E ratio, which is well below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 19.38. Just 52 weeks ago, AAPL’s P/E ratio was 20.8 and the 5-year average P/E ratio is 22.6.

What’s the Deal?

Why are traders discounting AAPL? Do investors believe the innovation pipeline is dry because Steve Jobs is no longer in charge? Is it because investors are disappointed with the iPhone 4S? Do investors believe that the company can not grow their earnings in a global recession?

While I can’t say for sure, I believe that, generally speaking, AAPL has been somewhat off the radar for many, as the turmoil in Europe dominates headlines and dampens investor sentiment. Then of course, there’s…

The Steve Jobs Effect

The passing of Steve Jobs was tragic for many and left many investors wondering about the company’s future. I’ve read countless articles about Apple Inc. having peaked and the impending collapse of the company as we know it. I personally disagree, because such a statement would discount not only the brilliant minds that Apple Inc. still has today, Steve Jobs’ leadership itself. Apple Inc. was never a one-man show and there are still plenty of talented people in the company.

The masses may have idolized Steve Jobs as being one of the greatest minds of our time. Although there is a lot of recognition for his ideas and how they changed our world as we know it, his foresight is likely much more far reaching that we may have anticipated. After all, this is the guy who came up with the iPad before he came up with the iPhone.

While I don’t care much to speculate about what their next inventions will be, I do feel confident in saying that there is likely a number of projects already in the pipeline, which could be as far out as the next 10 years.

With regard to the new CEO Tim Cook, my belief is that if Steve Jobs thought he was fit for the job, then he must be the right choice.

Positive Catalyst

As I mentioned earlier, I do not care to speculate about upcoming inventions by AAPL, but rather where the stock is headed. There is one very obvious major release that is coming up in less than a year, which is the iPhone 5, which was strangely anticipated for this year by many pundits, although it would not have followed Apple’s normal way of doing things. The launch of the iPhone 5 being approximately a year away leads me to believe that I can capture the pre-announcement run-up, the pre-launch run-up and the crazy volatility of the first week-end of sales (probably in July or August). If all goes well, I’ll even be able to hang on for the FY2012 Q4 earnings release (which they always low-ball) and the ensuing price spike. It seems logical for me that Tim Cook would want to close out his first fiscal year as CEO with a bang and the iPhone 5 is his key to achieving this.

Conclusion

I see this as one of the few great opportunities to buy AAPL before it makes another year-long run-up and, if we see the overall market go back to a “risk-on” environment, I can see AAPL easily get back to previous highs of $426. A return to former valuations, or at least consistent with the market, would bring us over $500. My time frame for such a run-up is to be over $500 by May, before the launch of the iPhone 5 and before hedge fund managers go to their summer homes in the Hamptons. Until then, I just need to sit back and wait (and watch the stock on my iPad).

Stay tuned!

Fake Your IP Address On A Android Or Ios Device (iphone, Ipad)

A fake IP address on your Android and iOS devices would protect your real IP address. Whether you like it or not, there’s an IP address on your phone. That can be more invasive than your actual telephone number, but together, if someone were to obtain both of these, you could be in some serious trouble. It’s easy enough to use someone’s phone number to find out what name and address is registered to the phone.

But with an IP address, you can hijack a persons internet session, get their login passwords and usernames, and access email, membership sites, or just sit and watch, waiting to intercept other private data. The reason that smartphones like Android and iPhone are more susceptible to this is because most people are going to access the internet from public places with their phone.

There are a number of ways to hide, or fake your IP address on a smartphone, but if security and privacy is your goal, then L2TP VPN is pretty much your best choice. There are other VPN protocols out there like OpenVPN, SSTP, and PPTP, but for these two phones, L2TP is going to be your best bet. Why?

Well, first of all, you phone comes with a VPN ‘client’ for L2TP, which means you don’t have to install any extra software – it was made ready to use this VPN.

The same is true for PPTP, but PPTP is an older version of VPNs, and is not as secure. Some people say that it’s faster, and some services offer this VPN protocol as a discounted VPN package. Don’t get me wrong – it’s better than nothing, and it does work. In fact, YOU probably won’t notice a difference. But there are some security disadvantages to PPTP.

There are several other types of VPNs out there, but they’re not as widely available, or not made for mobile devices. For example, Cisco has a couple of VPNs for smartphones – but that’s just the thing – you can only get them from one source – Cisco. With L2TP VPN you have a choice of tens if not hundreds of VPN services out there, all with different package options, features, and other goodies.

If you’re looking for a different protocol that L2TP, then you must REALLLY, REALLY know what you want. If this is the case, just remember that you’ll be depending on a third party application for your security – which is a security risk in itself, and for iPhones you’ll have to ‘jailbreak’ you phone, which is a risk I don’t have to say too much about. If you’re not sure about all this VPN stuff, the there’s no reason you have to even consider anything other than PPTP or L2TP to fake your IP address. A typical service will cost you $5 to $20 USD a month depending on the service, the VPN protocol, and the length of contract you sign up for.

The iPhone 5 Experiment: Camping Outside the Apple Store for a Month

We all know about those people who’re camping over night just to be the first in line when Apple opens it door and sells those new Apple products, where people lineup that stretches for blocks, just to get their hands on that new iPhone or iPad. But this guy is nothing compared to those hardcore Apple fanbase, meet Rob Shoesmith; a marketer and employee for MEDL Mobile based in UK. He’ll be camping for a month outside the Apple Store in London’s Covent Garden district for the iPhone 5.

That’s right, iPhone 5 (which Apple has yet to not announce), though it has been reported, rumored and speculated that iPhone 5 will be announced and will be available this September.

Rob is doing this not just for bragging rights, he is doing it (of course for attention) and as a marketing experiment calling it iPhone 5 Experiment. His rules for the experiment, he left all his cash and valuables at home, and will depend on gifts, "sponsorship", donation and loans from company or anyone who wants to help Rob in his adventure. So far Rob already got a number of "sponsorship" from Peter Popple’s Popcorn, webcam from Skype, iPhone 4 chargers to hard to find candies and more. Rob will be documenting his adventure and all the goodies that he receives, you can follow him on twitter "@shoesmith81" and his official iPhone 5 Experiment site at iphone5experiment

I’m not sure if Rob is allowed to setup camp at that Apple Store, since he is camping this early but just in case you’re passing by that Apple Store in London’s Covent, don’t forget to say "Hi!" to Rob!

Why iPhone 6 Will Launch by June 2013

While Apple experts and Wall Street pundits were expecting the iPad Mini to be announced on Oct. 23rd, all were shocked by the launch of the iPad 4. After all, millions of consumers (including me) were quick to purchase the New iPad (iPad 3) in record numbers in March. The remarkable feat of reducing their iPad product life cycle by 38% from an average of 13 months to 8 months (see chart) is a significant sign of things to come for their flagship product: the iPhone.

Since the iPhone 5 was announced and available in September, there are six reasons why we can expect an iPhone 6 announcement by June of 2013 (9 months after the iPhone 5):

  1. Apple needs the WOW factor: In order to re-capture the imagination of Apple fans, it’s time for Apple to “think different” from its past product release trends. The iPhone 5 brought incremental changes to the iPhone 4S. Many iPhone 4S owners can receive nearly the same features as the iPhone 5 by upgrading to iOS 6 (for free). Apple loyalists want to clap and cheer for the iPhone 6 with the same feeling they had when the original iPhone was announced by Jobs (see video). Let’s get wowed again.
  2. Apple wants to lead, not follow. Samsung has tremendous momentum in U.S. and global smartphone market share (see chart). While the Nielsen chart shows U.S. market share comparisons, Gartner reported that global smartphone market share for Samsung for 2Q2012 reached 64% while Apple had 18.8%, only slightly more than 2Q11 (18.2%). Apple needs a catalyst to jump-start its market share growth against its formidable foe.
  3. Apple sales S-curves are too short. Product managers/marketers use the S-curve to carefully manage when the next product should be introduced. Apple has been a master of maximizing revenues and profits from the launch of a product to the ramp phase (mass market adoption) to the mature phase (sales plateau, then subside). While the average iPhone PLC has been 14 months, the peak sales curve (ramp phase) of the iPhone 4S spanned a period of three months and the peak sales curve for iPhone 5 is projected to be 4 months. Thus, Apple needs shorter PLCs to continue to return value to its shareholders and deliver new value to consumers because revenue, profit and earnings shrink within two quarters after an iPhone announcement. No company wants lackluster sales for the vast majority of a product life cycle.
  4. Apple is at war with Samsung. Let’s face it. Despite Samsung being a supplier to Apple (and that is changing fast), this war is far from over. By October of 2012, Apple and Samsung have been involved in at least 50 lawsuits in at least 10 countries and there’s no end in sight. According to the latest US court decision, Apple revolutionized the phone and Samsung copied it. The jury awarded Apple more than $1 billion in damages.
  5. Apple leads in operational excellence. While it’s one thing to be innovative, it’s another to deliver smartphones on time in several countries with several different wireless standards. Apple has an excellent track record for six different iPhones and what’s about to be five different iPads. Although Samsung claimed that Samsung’s Galaxy S III launch delays resulted from overwhelming demand, the reality was that there were several manufacturing challenges that Samsung had to overcome “in order to meet the highest internal quality standards.” Samsung missed the pre-announced launch date. Apple did launch the iPhone 5 on time, yet then received overwhelming demand which has been leading to delivery delays.
  6. Been there, done that. The iPad 4 announcement tipped Apple’s hand by showing us what’s possible: a shorter time to market (TTM). The iPad 4 launch cut five months from the average iPad TTM and the iPhone 5 launch cut three months from the average iPhone TTM. Even if Apple were to announce iPhone 6 by June and make it available in July, that would be 10 months TTM from the iPhone 5 which is quite doable because the iPhone 5 had a TTM of 11 months. I’m forecasting June 2013 only because it synchronizes well with their next anticipated WWDC in June of next year. The quick TTM for the iPad 4 will translate to a fast TTM for the next iPhone.

With Tim Cook at the helm, it’s a marvel to see new products launch more quickly. As the legendary writer, teacher and management consultant said: “Time is the scarcest resource and unless it is managed, nothing else can be managed.” Apple will maximize our customer experience with shock and awe by launching an iPhone 6 by mid-2013.

Things to be considered while buying a mobile charger and phone case

It is the natural human tendency to buy those products which are cheap. Same is the case with mobile chargers and covers. Factors such as quality, efficiency, power requirements, adaptability, and convenience are not taken into much consideration while buying a phone charger. A recently conducted survey showed that people generally shop a charger by looking at the pin size or whether it would be comfortable for their brand of phone. For phone covers the general consideration revolves around its look not the features it has to offer. Let us look at the factors that should be considered while purchasing a charger and case.

What are the best buy mobile chargers?

1) Compatibility- It is a very important factor. A charger won’t do any good if it can’t be plugged into the user’s phone. Always look for the product specifications to determine whether your phone can work in accordance with it.

2) Portability- Every phone comes accompanied with a wall based charger. But a power supply is not always accessible. In such cases you require an energy efficient, easy to use travel charging station. Nowadays specific products are available which comes with a battery. Use can charge that battery, which can be used to energize your phone when you are on the move. Moreover these products come with a USB hub and cable management rack system for comfort.

3) Battery life- it is an important aspect in the case of travel based ones.

4) Requirements- You should buy a charger according to your need of application i.e. whether you need a wall one, usb one or transportable.

Mobile Covers

While buying a suitable case for your several factors should be taken into importance. Firstly with it looks take care whether it feels comfortable or not. Moreover look for its heat absorbing capability, weight, sleekness etc. Apart from that make sure whether the case would fit your phone perfectly or not. Ill fitting and poor looking chargers creates a careless impression of yours in the eyes of onlookers. Additionally it should make your phone look sophisticated and classy. Nowadays such cases are available which act as a stand too. By using it you can tilt or revolve your cell while doing your daily activities. For example if you want to buy iphone holder online you should look whether it fits the device, is comfortable to use and is light weighted with a sleek finish.

If you are planning to buy these accessories these tips would help you in your purchase. These products can be purchased through mobile shops and online as well. Buying them online is a better option as it is saves both your time and money.
